The Aarogya Setu App,
tracking the Indian government's coronavirus (COVID-19), will soon come
pre-installed on the phone. Government sources have informed this to News18
today. According to officials aware of the case, after the end of the lockdown,
the government has said that the pre-installed service of this app should be
made mandatory in all smartphones sold in India. It also said that companies
should not only pre-install but make sure that the user registers and sets it
before using the phone. To implement this decision, the Government of India is
ready to appoint nodal agencies, which will contact the smartphone companies,
and see that the option to skip with the app installed in all new devices is
denied. With this, the Arogya Setu app will be given as an inbuilt feature in
all new smartphones sold in India.
The government has not
yet announced any possible solution to enable contact tracing on feature phones,
which is still a major part of India's mobile phones. For information, let us
know when the Arogya Setu app was launched. Gone, it has been installed 7.5
million times across the country on Google Play Store alone. With the
government's plan to make the Arogya Setu Contact Tracing App mandatory, its
numbers may see a rapid increase in the coming days.
